I was informed in sept. 2007 That my truck probably will not pass inspection in 2008 due to excessive rust on my trucks frame. The truck is only eight years old. Doesn't this constitute premature frame deterioration? The inspectors suggested that I have someone weld steel onto the frame. It was recommended that I do this before this winter so it is not exposed to any more salt from the roads. Structure · reported at 100,000 miles
Toyota sent a recall card in 2011 to rust proof the frame. They covered up the rust and said the vehicle was good to go. The frame has rusted to the point the vehicle is not safe to drive. I have a friend that had the same problem and they purchased his vehicle and I know several people have had their frame's replaced at no charge by Toyota. They avoided the issue and now I have a unsafe vehicle. Structure · reported at 180,000 miles
The owns a 1999 Toyota 4runner. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection when he was advised that the frame was completely rusted. The dealer took pictures of the frame and called the manufacturer but the manufacturer would provide no assistance because the vehicle was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired.
